Millie’s story

Millie

In early August of 2025, we received an urgent message about an abandoned female pit mix who had been left behind at a property in our community. It was believed that she was either heavily pregnant or had just given birth, and neighbors had labeled her as dangerous, warning others to keep their distance. Concerned for her safety and the wellbeing of any potential puppies, we immediately began coordinating with the homeowner and the local dog warden. After careful discussions, we were granted permission to safely remove her from the property. It was heartbreaking to confirm that Millie had truly been abandoned—her owners had moved away and left her behind, completely alone.

Once Millie arrived at her foster home, she was understandably anxious, but she quickly began to settle in. Within just 24 hours, she went into labor and gave birth to seven beautiful, healthy puppies, each one a testament to her resilience and strength. Over time, we learned more about Millie’s past: she had been bred repeatedly, with back-to-back litters, all while being heartworm positive. The physical and emotional toll of her past was clear, yet despite everything she had endured, Millie displayed incredible courage and a gentle spirit.

Her transformation has been nothing short of remarkable. The “big scary mama dog” that neighbors once feared has blossomed into a loving, affectionate dog who adores everyone she meets. She is now thriving in a safe environment, showered with love and attention, and watching over her puppies with the devotion of a true mother. Millie’s story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of animals, the difference that compassion and care can make, and the incredible capacity for love that exists even in those who have faced neglect and hardship.
