Meet Tater

Tater is an 8–9-year-old Pit Bull mix with a remarkable spirit and a playful, loving personality, despite a past filled with unimaginable hardship. Originally rescued from Georgia by a Kentucky rescue, Tater endured severe abuse as a bait dog and suffered further trauma when acid was poured on him. He was later seized by local animal control due to hoarding and cruelty, eventually spending time in a very crowded shelter before finally being brought to safety.

Tater’s ears, once big and pointy, are now deformed from untreated ear infections and hematomas. He is also deaf, likely due to years of neglect, and he has only three toes, each telling a story of the struggles he has overcome. Despite all of this, Tater’s spirit has never been broken. He is incredibly resilient, affectionate, and full of life.

He currently lives with three cats and five other dogs and does amazing with them all. He enjoys play and interaction but also naps frequently throughout the day. Tater loves his kennel and will happily put himself up for naps without issue. He does not get on furniture, making him easy to manage in the home, and he enjoys his own quiet space.

Tater absolutely loves people and thrives on attention. Baths and handling are easy for him, and he especially enjoys butt scratches and gentle pets, leaning into affection with a joyful, trusting heart. He is playful and energetic in his own way, showing that even after everything he has endured, he still finds joy in life.

Tater is potty trained, crate trained, and leash trained. Because he is deaf, he does not require a fenced yard, but he must be supervised and kept on a leash when outside for his safety. He is not recommended for cats outside of his current supervised environment and is recommended for homes with children 7 and older. While he enjoys the company of some dogs, he would do best as the only dog in the home or with calm, older dogs who understand boundaries and won’t crowd him. He thrives with people who can give him structure, consistency, and gentle guidance while respecting his pace and space.

Tater is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. He is looking for a patient, loving forever home that will see past his scars and provide the comfort, stability, and affection he has always deserved. Those who take the time to understand Tater will be rewarded with a devoted, joyful companion whose loyalty and love are endless.
